Carla A. Pfeffer Michigan State University, USA

Carla A. Pfeffer is Professor of Sociology, Community-Engaged Research Fellow, and Big Ten Academic Alliance Leadership Fellow at Michigan State University. She completed her PhD in Sociology at the University of Michigan. Her research focuses on contemporary families, genders, health, sexualities, bodies considered marginal, and stigma and discrimination management processes. Her award-winning book Queering Families: The Postmodern Partnerships of Cisgender Women and Transgender Men was published by Oxford University Press (2017). The sole U.S. co-Investigator on internationally funded research, she studied transgender pregnancy. Her research has been funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, and American Council of Learned Societies. It has been published in leading journals and recognized through awards from the National Council on Family Relations and the American Sociological Association.  Dr. Pfeffer has been nationally-elected Chair of the sections on Sex and Gender and Sexualities and Secretary-Treasurer of the section on Body and Embodiment of the American Sociological Association. She is Editor-in-Chief of an interdisciplinary journal on body weight and society, guest editor of four journal special issues, has served on nine journal editorial boards, and reviewed for 80+ academic journals and presses.
