Susan E. Embretson is a Professor of Psychology at Georgia Institute of Technology. She has been recognized nationally and internationally for her programmatic research on integrating cognitive theory into psychometric item response theory models and into the design of measurement tasks. She has received several awards for her research, including the Career Award for Lifetime Achievement (2018) from the Psychometric Society; Saul Sells Award for Distinguished Multivariate Research (2019) from the Society for Multivariate Experimental Psychology; the Career Contribution Award (2013) and the Technical and Scientific Contribution Award (1994–1997) from the National Council on Measurement and Education. Embretson has also served as president for the Society for Multivariate Experimental Psychology (1998), the Psychometric Society (1999), and the American Psychological Association Division (5) for Measurement, Evaluation, and Statistics. She authored a best selling graduate textbook Item Response Theory for Psychologists (2000, with S. Reise), as well as several edited volumes on measurement and test design.
