I have recommended this not only to my students but to junior researchers I mentor. Of course Charmaz is a key figure in the story of grounded theory research, but she writes in an accessible way in this book that has helped my students to navigate the process
A very useful book whichy is key to adding further understanding around grounded theory. This second edition builds upon the initial book and offers a more intuitive read and is more reader freindly.
Excellent text, but of deeper interest to students particularly adopting Grounded Theory techniques for their dissertations. Will be recommended however as the 'go to' text in these circumstances.
For students who use grounded theory for their thesis research project, this book is a key text and the feedback from students is very positive.
As more and more students start to embrace the utilisation of grounded theory in their data analysis, this text will be very help for student research projects enrich their experience and enhance the quality of their research findings.
The Previous edition has been a bible for my own research and when supervising research students. The new edition is expanded and is highly recommended
A good number of post-fieldwork students indicated how helpful the text has been to them in writing up their field report.
The book provides students with the basic conceptual tools for mapping out their research proposals choosing 'grounded theory as their theoretical framework. Most of our postgraduate students struggle with articulation of their research ideas and choice of research tools. The usefriendly language in which the book is written is a welcome feature especially for students for English is not their first language. My students are encouraged by the "invitation to join the journey through a qualitative research project" in the opening chapter. For those students who come across 'grounded theory' for the first time, the section 'Emergence of grounded Theory' provides a seamless historical chronicling of the origins and challenges of the theory and offers invaluable references that students can browse through to enrich their grasp of the theorys genesis.
Towards the end a 'glossary' of the relevant terms provides useful explanation of some of the keywords and phrases the student will either encounter or use in future in their research.
A useful addition for qualitative research methods module elements
