Some steps editors can take to increase diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within their journals

Introduction

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is something that we care deeply about at SAGE. We are aware that the publishing industry, including SAGE, has much more work to do in order to better reflect the diversity of the world we seek to educate and inform.



The Green Route – Open Access Archiving Policy

Authors can make their articles Open Access by archiving their article at no charge via the Green route.

Authors who have published in a subscription journal can do this by depositing the version of the article accepted for publication (version 2) in their own institution’s repository.



Page Budgets

Plain Language Summaries

In recent years, there have been calls to make scholarly articles more accessible to non-specialist audiences. Research has always helped shape the public realm, empowering people across all sectors of society to make informed decisions. Academic or topic-specific jargon can hinder the general understanding and impact of such publications, which is where Plain Language Summaries (PLS) or Plain Language Summaries of Publications (PLS-P) can be very helpful.



Northeastern University

Sage has an agreement with Northeastern University to publish articles open access. The agreement for participating organizations will run from January 01, 2024, through to December 31, 2026. The details of the agreement are as follows:

To qualify for the agreement, the corresponding author must be affiliated with Northeastern University and have an article accepted for publication between January 01, 2024, and December 31, 2026.


Rowan University

Sage has an agreement with Rowan University to publish articles open access. The agreement for participating organizations will run from January 01, 2024 through to December 31, 2026. The details of the agreement are as follows: 

To qualify for the agreement, the corresponding author must be affiliated with Rowan University and have an article accepted for publication between January 01, 2024, and December 31, 2026. 


Singapore Alliance of University Libraries (SAUL)

Sage has an agreement with the Singapore Alliance of University Libraries (SAUL) to publish a limited number of Open Access articles in Hybrid journals per institution. The agreement for participating organizations will run from January 1, 2025, through to December 31, 2025. The details of the agreement are as follows: 


First Lecture Slides

Students are more likely to use a textbook if they are referred to it by their lecturer at the start of their course. To assist with this, Sage can create ‘first lecture’ slides to incorporate into opening lectures.

Sage Choice - FAQs

Why publish Sage Choice? 

The Sage Choice publishing option was designed to support authors who wish to have their research article made open access immediately upon publication, or are required to do so by their funding body. The policies of grant funding bodies throughout the world (e.g., NIH, Wellcome Trust, RCUK etc.) vary widely with regards to open access requirements and Sage Choice is designed to be compliant with some of the most stringent requirements.
