Charles R. Crews Texas Tech University, USA

Charles Rutledge Crews, PhD., is an Associate Professor in the graduate educational psychology and leadership department for the Counseling Program at Texas Tech University. Where serves as the coordinator of the school counseling program since 2007. Dr. Crews is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a board approved supervisor. He is also a certified school counselor in New Mexico. He works with schools, districts, and universities in designing interventions to best meet the needs of students. Dr. Crews also maintains a private practice treating children and adolescents using creative interventions, Dr. Crews currently provides clients with interventions pertaining to compulsive technology use, school achievement, intensive outpatient programs, Veterans issues, school planning, prison rehab, hospitals rehab, church spiritual discernment, and through the court system.

            Dr. Crews keeps busy authoring numerous journal articles on technology related issues and opportunities in counseling. He is frequently invited to present on a wide range of topics for local, state, regional, national, and international associations and organizations. He has been interviewed by national associations on topics related to technology overuse, and suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention.

            Born in El Paso, Texas Charles graduated from El Paso High School, one of the oldest high schools in the region. He ventured from the comfort of home to travel south arriving in Seguin, Texas where he earned a BA degree in psychology and theology from Texas Lutheran University. After graduation, he went back home to El Paso and completed his master’s of education at UT-El Paso in Guidance and Counseling. He didn’t stop there, he left home once again to attend Texas A&M University – Commerce where his lifelong dream to complete his PhD in counselor education and supervision came true.

            Charles worked as a School Counselor in Burnet, Texas before completing his dissertation and earning a tenure-track position at Texas Tech University. At Texas Tech he was awarded the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award, was inducted into the Texas Tech Teaching Academy, and was named one of the top 5 professors at Texas Tech by the student body. He was also awarded the Dean’s excellence in teaching award.

            Dr. Crews is married to Camille Frost; they have one little girl and a little boy on the way. Charles loves outdoor activities and blends them into his counseling work as much as possible. Camping, Hiking, Cooking, and Fishing make for the perfect work day away from academia.
