Joanna Coast is professor of the Economics of Health and Care at the University of Bristol, UK. She has a BA(Econ) in Economics and a MSc in Health Economics, both from the University of York, and a PhD in Social Medicine from the University of Bristol. She has received major grants from the Medical Research Council and the European Research Council and has published more than 130 research papers in academic journals. Her main research interests are in the application of the capability approach, health care priority setting, end-of-life care, antimicrobial resistance, and the use of qualitative methods in health economics. She is senior editor of Health Economics for Social Science and Medicine.
