Dr. Melissa J. Bloomer is a senior lecturer in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Deakin University in Australia. With a background in acute and critical care nursing, she has always had an interest in care of the dying. After commencing a career in academia in 2010, she completed her PhD in 2013 in which she examined how acute care nurses recognize when a patient might be dying and how they respond. Her research work now focuses on all facets of end-of-life care across various inpatient settings and with different populations.
