I have recommended this book to Early Years Foundation Degree Students and I have added it to the book list in a unit which is concerned with planning maths through play. It is an interesting read with clear ideas about how to engage children in maths through books and oral story telling. It explains the difference between reading and story telling. It also combines theory alongside these ideas. I particularly liked the reference to cultural tools for literacy and mathematical thinking.

This book is more suited to a level 2 learner rather than level 3 upwards. It has some good ideas that could be adapted.
