David J. States Affigen
Dr. States has spent more than 30 years at the forefront of computational biology, genomics and proteomics - in roles that have spanned industry, academia and public policy. Most recently Dr. States served as Chief Medical Officer at Biovest International, where he oversaw clinical and regulatory affairs for the company’s lead cancer immunotherapy program. Prior to Biovest, Dr. States served as Founding Director of the University of Michigan’s Computational Biology Program, and as Director of Washington University’s Center for Genetics in Medicine and of its Institute for Biomedical Computing. He was involved in the inception of the Human Genome Project, and he helped to establish the NIH National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI).Dr. States is a Board Certified Internist and a Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics. He received his M.D. and his Ph.D. from Harvard University, and underwent clinical training at the University of California, San Diego and at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. States has authored more than 95 peer reviewed publications in fields related to bioinformatics, genomics, proteomics, and to molecular and cellular biology, and he has served on numerous public and private scientific advisory boards, including the St. Jude Hartwell Center, Protein Information Resource, Cytoscape, Gene Ontology, DzGenes, MGI Corp. and The Wistar Institute, as well as having chaired the National Library of Medicine Biomedical Libraries and Information Resources Committee (BLIRC).
