Edward Taub CI Therapy Research Group & Taub Therapy Clinic, USA
Dr. Edward Taub is a University Professor and Director of the CI Therapy Research Group and of the Taub Therapy Clinic of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is also Scientific Director of the CI Therapy Program at Childrens of Alabama. Based on his basic research with monkeys he developed Constraint-Induced Therapy (CI Therapy or CIT), which is a family of treatments for the rehabilitation of movement or speech after damage to the nervous system produced by stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis or traumatic brain injury. His laboratory has shown that after each of these types of damage to the central nervous system, CI Therapy produces a profuse increase of grey matter in motor areas of the brain and the hippocampus bilaterally and in the integrity of white matter tracts. This is presumably one of the mechanisms by which it produces its therapeutic effects.
