"This concise, profound, and beautifully written book offers a tour de force across the landscape of race and ethnicity by a young author who masters them all."

This book offers an accessible discussion of both foundational and novel concepts in the study of race and ethnicity. Each account will help readers become familiar with how long standing and contemporary arguments within race and ethnicity studies contribute to our understanding of social and political life more broadly.
Providing an excellent starting point with which to understand the contemporary relevance of these concepts, Nasar Meer offers an up-to-date and engaging consideration of everyday examples from around the world. This is an indispensable guide for both students and established researchers interested in the study of race and ethnicity.
There was a clear definition of terms. Additionally, I was able to use the text as a foundational resource for multiple lectures. Specifically, I have used the chapter on citizenship for lectures on policy and community organizing
This is a very useful book for my third year Cultures of Race and Racism course and I may use it for a three week block in a first year social divisions course too. Clear and accessible - perfect for undergraduates
I would recommend this book to students studying any humanities and/or social science modules. It is insightful, current, well-structured and easy to read. Students will find engaging with key concepts easy and interesting throughout this book.
A very clear overview of key concepts. It's the single text I recommend to students if they want to buy a book for the first year module Understanding Race.
This is an excellent book for those who believe in the existence of racismS. For those who understand race as an hierarchical ideology based on phenotype difference, the book engages the reader by conflating classical ideas with more contemporaries understandings of nationalism and ethnicity.
This book is truly accessible for younger undergraduate students. It covers several concepts in the field of race and ethnicity research which are central to Peace and Conflict Studies. It is especially important that further reading is suggested for each concept. The book will be included into recommended reading for the students attending "Civil society actors in local, national and international contexts" course in the third semester of the Peace and Conflict Studies Programme at Malmö University. The librarians will be asked to buy this book also as E-book.
A very helpful text that I recommend to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
I am hoping that this text will be on the reading list of our new Ed Std course.
book recommended as supplementary reading for students who want to explore further .

This book is very useful for introducing the ideas of race and ethnicity for the first year sociology students. The book reflects on a wide range of topics from race and ethnicity to identities, different forms of racism, nationalism and migration and covers well both theoretical approaches to race and ethnicity as well as more recent developments in the way ethnicity and race are being conceptualised.
