Becoming a Registered Nurse
Making the transition to practice

July 2012 | 160 pages | Learning Matters
Final-year nursing students are often nervous about making the transition to being a registered nurse. This book helps students prepare for their first nursing role and uses 'real life' scenarios to consolidate their skills. It guides students through the final year with its increased demands, and assists them in meeting the NMC requirements for registration. It covers content commonly found on final year transition to practice modules including coping with stress; applying for jobs; what to expect from your first role; dealing with change; delegating and managing junior staff; handling risky situations; managing priorities and developing your career.

'I suggest a particular highlight of this book is the degree to which it contains so much useful information for new nurses, pitched just about perfectly, in such a short book' -
Nursing Times

This book is a good resource for lecturers and students of nursing alike. As always within this series, the layout, clear but patronising language and the multitude of real life examples help readers to understand complex issues and show ways of applying those beyond the classroom or lecture theatre.

I found this an easy read which would benefit final year students who are looking at leadership and decision making. Not too expensive to recommend either.

A very useful book for both third year students and newly qualified nurses. As with all of the learning matters texts is full of helpful and appropriate exercises useful for self guided reflection but equally for lecturers in preparing meaningful tutorials.

An excellent resource for the newly qualified nurse. The content will help to consolidate major issues in health care and with the scenarios/illustrations/activities the nurse will find this book very helpful during the transition stage of their new professional career.
