Pocket Glossary for Commonly Used Research Terms
- Michael J. Holosko - University of Georgia, USA
- Bruce A. Thyer - Florida State University, USA
An excellent glossary, very helpful for teaching an introduction to research methods to under-graduate social work students. Comprehensive, up to date and accessible.
Teaching Inquiry, Evidence and Inference (as introduction to scientific reasoning) in a New York State medium-security prison, through the extraordinary Bard Prison Initiative. As you might expect, internet access is severely limited. So the college ordered three or four copies of the Pocket Glossary for the prison Library, as a remarkably comprehensive mini-compendium of necessary terms and their meaning/use. Would have ask for sufficient number for all students, but too pricey.
cost to students for another book
The terminology, while quite complete, was more than the students in my masters level action research course required. I would consider this text again if I were teaching an introductory course for doctoral students.
A really useful source of reference for students new to research.
Not as thorough as could be. Many terms excluded.
An exellent reference book for anyone undertaking research. All key terminology is right there in one handy little book. I would highly recommend it
This small book is a quite excellent source of key facts for both my grad and undergrad research methods classes. The book supplements course text books and provides students (and faculty) with an easily accessible glossary of research terms that is neither too dense in its description, or too light weight.
I like the pockert-sized book, so it is easy to carry. While its focus is on social science research, there's enough educational terminology for it to be useful.
Faculty felt the book was not going to help the studetns enough
