SAGE and FABBS launch Policy Insights from the Behavioral and Brain Sciences
Los Angeles, CA - SAGE and Federation of Associations in Behavioral & Brain Sciences (FABBS) announce a new journal that addresses the interface between policy and research on behavior, mind, and brain – Policy Insights from the Behavioral and Brain Sciences (PIBBS). The first issue of the annual journal will be published late 2014.
With current FABBS President Dr. Susan Fiske as editor, PIBBS will publish original, innovative research and scientific reviews relevant to public policy and public administration. The new journal will provide scientists with an outlet to share research that can help build sound policy, will encourage the behavioral science community to build research models that can be implemented to address societal needs, and will allow policymakers to provide feedback about research that can address societal challenges.
“At SAGE, we believe that quality research can and should inform good policy and policymakers,” commented Bob Howard, Vice President of Journals Editorial at SAGE. “PIBBS provides a needed forum on the intersection of public policy and behavioral and brain research, and further underscores the importance of federal funding of scientific inquiry.”
PIBBS’ first volume will feature more than 20 original research and scientific review articles focused on policy insights from social and personality psychology, with guest editors Dr. Eugene Borgida from the Society of Experimental Social Psychology, and Dr. Brenda Major, from the Society for Personality and Social Psychology. The first issue of PIBBS will be dedicated to various critical social issues such as diplomacy and conflict resolution, race perceptions, empowering women, climate change, food policy, and the psychology implications of cancer and other serious illnesses.
“Good ideas and scientific evidence can save American lives and money,” commented Dr. Fiske. “These are exciting times for the behavioral and brain sciences, which are generating useful insights that can serve the policy world.”
FABBS is a coalition of scientific societies that share an interest in advancing the sciences of mind, brain, and behavior. The organization’s goal is to promote human potential and well being through the knowledge gained from behavioral and brain scholarship. Representing a broad range of researchers, this new FABBS journal will cover a wide scope of topics for a range of audiences.
