Timo Hannay joins SAGE Publishing’s Board as a Non-Executive Director

February 1, 2016

Los Angeles, CA- SAGE Publishing today announces that Timo Hannay is joining SAGE’s Board of Directors as a non-executive Director.  Dr. Hannay recently launched SchoolDash, a company devoted to the analysis and visualization of data about primary and secondary schools in the U.K. Until June 2015, he was the founding Managing Director of Digital Science, a division of Holtzbrinck Publishing Group that invests in and develops scientific software innovations in order to simplify and accelerate the research process.

Welcoming Dr. Hannay to SAGE’s Board, David McCune, Executive Vice Chairman of SAGE Publishing, said, “Timo will bring his expertise, experience and inventive spirit to the SAGE Board – a valuable new perspective as we continue to develop new products and to invest in independent start-up ventures such as PeerJ and Publons, incubators of revolutionary ideas for the scholarly community. Timo has founded and operated companies in higher education, scientific research and primary/secondary education. These are all core markets for SAGE, and we look forward to Timo’s views on our strategic development.”

Among his previous roles, Dr. Hannay was Publishing Director of nature.com, a management consultant, a writer for The Economist and a neurophysiologist at the University of Oxford and Waseda University in Tokyo. His projects have won several awards for technical and business innovation.

Dr. Hannay commented, “I am delighted to join SAGE Publishing’s Board of Directors. SAGE’s long-term perspective – enabled by their private ownership, their openness to new ideas and the strong vision of their founder – makes them well-placed to support innovative new approaches in education and scholarship. I look forward to contributing to the strategic direction of the company."

SAGE’s Board of Directors is chaired by the company’s founder, Sara Miller McCune, and is comprised of experts from university faculty, libraries and business who give strategic management advice to the owners of the company.
