Moving away from the usual medical-modeled framework of mental health focused on problems, Strengths-Based Supervision in Clinical Practice takes a postmodern, social construction approach, looking for and amplifying strengths and encouraging stakeholders to use them. Based on research in brain science, as well as from the Information Age/Connectivity Age thinking, the book reframes the focus of supervision, management, and leadership to one that collaborates and builds on strengths with supervisees as competent stakeholders in their work with their clients. Deconstructing the usual top-down hierarchy, Strengths-Based Supervision leads the reader through the full range of supervision, from the clinical aspects to the administration of all organizations where clinicians are trained, supervised, and encouraged to excel and grow. The book contains two full chapters on traditional clinical supervision before moving on to strengths-based work in not only clinical supervision, but also agency and organizational work, all from a contemporary strengths-based model. The book is chock-full of vignettes and includes a full chapter with two case studies. This is the next generation of supervision.

I have recommended this text to students who are completing four year B Sc nursing and about to undertake 36 week internship programme prior to registration. The advantage of this text is its adoption of a strengths based approach which is the foundation of my teaching approach for practice intervention in mental health setting. The intention of recommending this text is to provide students with supplemental reading and future direction relating to professional supervision.
