Excellent resource to support public health topics - understanding the factors that affect health and the strategies being put in place to help reduce the affect of the factors on health. Excellent activities and case studies throughout. Really valuable learning resource.
Students will be recommended to purchase this text as there is a high level of information relevant to a specific unit within our course. The book is structured well with subheadings making it easy to find any required information. There is a good use of case studies to support points from varying different health and social care setting to allow students to visualize theory to practice. There are extra activities provided throughout to allow students to think deeper about topic. Each identified vulnerable group is looked at in detail with lots of valuable information provided.
Written with empathy and understanding. A great book for all students of health and social care related studies.
A useful book that provides some good commentary on some of the most vulnerable groups in society.
Provides a suitable introduction with obvious detail and depth, and good examples and useful activities linked to learning outcomes accompanying each chapter. The first edition provides a very good introductory overview.
However given the considerable changes that have occurred in this area since 2009, a second edition would be relevant and timely: for example, the first edition was published prior to the Francis Report.
However this is a welcome start in an expanding area where needs are great but receive nothing like the spotlight or support afforded to child protection.
This is an essential book for HNC Helath and Social Care students to refer to when undertaking unit 10 safeguarding in Health and Social care. it provides detailed information on why the following groups of people are vulnerable:-
1) one parents
2) people with disabilities
3) older people
4) children
5) ethnic groups
6) the mentally ill
7) the homeless
8) asylum seekers and refugees
This is a recommended read for health and social care students learning about working with vulnerable groups. An excellent resource to compliment their classroom learning.
A good resource to introduce to student nurses on recognising vulnerability and promoting safeguarding.
This book covers too many topics and therefore does not provide enough detail to be an asset to our Public Health Course.
