Jesus Ramírez-Valles, PhD, MPH University of California San Francisco, USA

Jesus Ramirez-Valles is director of the Health Equity Institute, which conducts original research to understand and implement pathways to health equity; partners with communities to understand and address critical barriers to health equity; provides support to SF State faculty and students to explore health equity research; and creates multimedia communications tools that speak the voices of communities and inspire change for health equity. His research interests include health education and health promotion; community organizing; sociology of health, race, gender, sexual orientation; HIV/AIDS; and aging and health. He is a former Associate Editor of Health Education & Behavior, and former Editor-in-Chief of Health Promotion Practice. Dr. Ramirez-Valles has received research funding from the National Institutes of Health and the Rockefeller Foundation, among others, and has served as a member of the Advisory Council of the NIH National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities. He is the author (with J. Compañeros) of the award-winning Latino Activists in the Face of AIDS (University of Illinois Press, 2011).
