Raúl Alberto Mora Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Colombia

Raúl Alberto Mora is an Associate Professor in the Doctorate in Education at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB) in Medellín, Colombia. He holds an MA in Teacher Education and a PhD in Language and Literacy, both from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At UPB, he teaches courses on critical theory, qualitative research, and language teaching methods. He has been a visiting professor and guest lecturer at universities in Colombia, Poland, Mexico, Brazil, Spain, Norway, Czechia, and the U.S. Dr. Mora chairs the award-winning Literacies in Second Languages Project (LSLP) Research Lab. With his research teams, he studies second-language literacies in urban spaces and gaming communities and the pedagogical implementation of alternative literacies in second-language education. He has published his research in multiple peer-reviewed journals and book chapters and co-edited special issues for International Journal of Cultural Studies, European Journal of Humour Research, Social Semiotics, Pedagogies, and English Teaching: Practice and Critique. He co-edited The Handbook of Critical Literacies (2021) and Translanguaging and Multimodality as Flow, Agency, and a New Sense of Advocacy in and from the Global South (2024). He is also the editor of the forthcoming volume Understanding Second Language Users as Gamers: Language-as-Victory (under contract with Routledge).
