Confronting Child and Adolescent Sexual Abuse
- Cynthia Crosson-Tower - Professor Emerita, Fitchburg State University
This book provides detailed exploration of current research and issues. Relevant case studies included to aid real life application and chapter review sections are a valuable addition. Especially useful is the chapter on theory.
A thorough but sensitive exploration of history, treatment, progress, and growing recognition of long and short term impact.
This text provided an interesting context-setting chapter on views towards the sexual abuse of children which I felt was valuable for my students. In addition, I have used the text to illustrate to students the factors which may precede the onset of abusive behaviours in young people.
This book gives the student a clear ‘non sugar coated’ understanding to the issues of child and adolescent sexual abuse. Crosson-Tower provides a deeper richer text that goes beyond what has been published before. This comprehensive text can only be beneficial to all students and practitioners in the field of child safeguarding and protection.
The course creation has been put on hold. There are plans in the works to start the course and use this book. However, it is not definitive at this point.
The author of this book has produced a book that provides a history to child and adolescent sexual abuse that evokes thought and insight to the complexities of sexual abuse. The different types of assessment and treatments to assist the reader on past and current innovations to working within the different areas that face social workers in working with service users affected by sexual abuse.
Theories referred to within the book are ones that will enable practitioners to utilise the thinking in undertaking work with children and young people that could be said to be transformative in seeing different ways of engaging and understanding.
