Authors can make their article open access either via the gold OA publishing or green OA archiving as described below.

A number of funders require research articles which have resulted from their funding to be made open access, including RCUK, NIH and Wellcome Trust. Sage helps authors comply with these mandates either via the gold open access publication route or green open access archiving.

SAGE Publishing announces collaboration with the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS)

London, UKSAGE Publishing, a leading independent and academic publisher, is delighted to announce collaboration with the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) to support its Doctoral Training programme (DTP) as awarded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC). SeNSS is a consortium formed of 10 leading UK universities, all of which are engaged in cutting-edge social science research and training.

SAGE Waives Article Processing Charges for Research Related to COVID-19

From the 1st February 2022, SAGE will no longer waive APCs for all COVID-19 related research.

SAGE Publishing announces that it will publish open access any accepted research that is relevant to the treatment, transmission, cure, or social impact of COVID-19 without requiring article processing charges (APCs). Additionally, SAGE will fast track these papers for rapid publication and dissemination. 


SAGE Publishing Launches the 10-Year Impact Awards

Today SAGE Publishing announces the launch of the 10-Year Impact Awards, recognizing research that is influential for the longer-term. SAGE will present awards to the three articles published in SAGE journals that are most highly cited over a 10-year period. The inaugural awards will look at articles published in 2009 and analyze their citation data through the end of 2019. 


UK Jisc Agreement

Sage has an agreement with Jisc for subscribing Jisc institution members to cover open access article processing charges (APCs) for affiliated corresponding authors. The UK Jisc Agreement, open to all UK institutions who are consortium members, will run between 2023 and 2024. The details of the UK Jisc Agreement are as follows:
