Counselling and Supporting Children and Young People
A Person-centred Approach
- Mark Prever - Lead Professional, Every Child Matters, Yardleys School, Birmingham
This practical text:
- specifically addresses both the counsellor and the 'helper', who may be unfamiliar with counselling jargon
- contains exercises, points for further thought and discussion, and boxed notes thoroughout, highlighting exactly how the theory applies to the child or young person
- discusses ethics, the current political agenda and evidence-based practice.
This book is a must-read for trainees and professionals working with children and young people in the fields of counselling and psychotherapy, education, mental health, nursing, youth work and social work.
This is a five week course and I liked the content covered in this textbook.
A useful guide to the person-centred approach to counselling. Very easy to read and understand and I found the case studies very useful when considering theory.
This book demonstrates an excellent and up to date application of person centred approach when working with children and young people. The book is further enhanced by the excellent case study examples. This book is a must read for anyone working with children and young people.
I love PCT approach in counseling as such I love this book....a well written book!!
Does not provide the emphasis that we required.
Accessible and relevant for our foundation degree students, many of whom are foster parents.
This book has been adopted as recommended reading for the BSC honours Community Youth Work degree at the University of Ulster in Magee. the book offers an overview of person centred practice with young people, setting it in context and offers good examples of case studies and reflective questions and exercises that are useful for students. It is particularly useful for training students as effective helpers and in listening ear. I suggest that those involved in counselling training would find this a useful resource.
This publication is interesting and relevant to anyone working with children or young people.
It offers the combination of theory and practice together with blending ethical and legal considerations.
The case studies also bring the theory to life.
Some useful insights into direct work with children and young people
Clear, well written and informative. I would highly recommend that anyone working with children and young people read this book.
