Disability Studies
A Student's Guide
- Colin Cameron - Northumbria University, UK
Disability & Rehabilitation | Learning and Physical Disabilities | Sociology of Health and Illness
An interdisciplinary and broad-ranging text, the book includes 50 chapters on topics relevant across health and social care. Reflective questions and suggestions for further reading throughout will help readers gain a critical appreciation of the subject and expand their knowledge.
This will be valuable reading for students and professionals across disability studies, health, nursing, social work, social care, social policy and sociology.
too specific to course module - acceptable as a brief overview of topics
Ideal for students new to the social aspects of disability
In this year´s course we focused on issues concerned around disability & work, employment ... so could only use a few chapters/contributions of the book. Of greater usability for other subject focus, perhaps in an upcoming course.
Best, RL
Covers a wide range of inclusion, exclusion, impairment and disabling issues. Considering concepts from a wide range of areas this book goes beyond education and develops an understanding particularly of social and medical model influences.
An easily accessible text, that will provide the student with a strong foundation in disabilities studies,
This will be a useful addition to my reading list for the Concepts of Person Centred Care module in the Foundation Degree Health and Social Care programme.
Recommended reading for students researching disability topic
This is an excellent book that helps to bring the hitherto neglected area of disability into a central place within social work education. The book is usefully presented in short, digestable, sections that are clearly written. Students will find this book a valuable source throughout their studies.
Good text for further reading.
An essential read for any students studying disability studies.
