Digital Literacy Skills for FE Teachers
- Jonathan White - University of Derby, Derby, UK
Effective digital skills are essential for all teachers and tutors in the Further Education (FE) and Skills Sector. This text brings together important theory and research around digital literacy and outlines what this means for teaching in the sector. It is a practical guide that:
- introduces different types of web-based technologies and explores how they can be used in teaching
- provides guidance on the digital skills teachers and tutors need and how they can be developed
- examines issues of digital safety, security and responsibility and how online learning communities can be accessed
- applies critical thinking, creativity and responsibility to the processes of using digital technologies inside and outside of the classroom
Providing a comprehensive framework, underpinned by the standards through which to develop digital literacy skills, this is an essential resource for those teaching or training to teach in the FE and Skills sector.
This thoughtful book provides a useful framework to help us consider some of the important questions new technology poses... While the book is full of useful ideas, it does not just provide a 'how to' guide but asks the reader to consider their own relationship with digital technology and how this might be developed. He backs up theory with case histories and examples, making the ideas practical and accessible.
There are many references to the Digitally Literate FE and Skills Teacher Framework, which are, of course, extremely useful if you happen to be an FE or skills teacher. But even if you are not, this book is worth having, not least because it is bang up to date, with sections on MOOCs, copyright, cyberbullying and critical reading.
A good resource for students on the Foundation Degree programme to explore theory and research in digital literacy. Examples within the book provide clear links to practice to support key assignments on the course, enabling students to critically examine their own teaching methods of technology in the classroom.
This book covers all issues related to the introduction of digital literacy into FE classrooms. Great for PGCE students and existing tutors wishing to add a digital element to their lessons
Very clear and concise. A good resource.
Very useful for teachers to keep up to date with digital literacy enabling the use of ILT in the classroom.

This was really easy to read and suitable for all practioners in a college environment

Digital Literacy is essential and will become even more so in the near future, as such this book can provide useful ideas to allow FE and HE teachers to embed digital literacy skills into a wide variety of subject areas.
Very good skills bok for every teacher whether on the FE or HE sector
