Sociological Bulletin
Sociological Bulletin, a journal of the Indian Sociological Society, was launched on 1 March 1952. The credit for founding both the Indian Sociological Society and the Sociological Bulletin goes to G. S. Ghurye, the then Professor and Head of the Department of Sociology at the University of Bombay. From 2021, the journal has become a quarterly refereed journal. The journal is a powerful platform for sociologists and social scientists to share their research with the professional fraternity. Non-sociologists and non-members of the Indian Sociological Society are not prohibited from their contributions to the journal. Owing to its liberal policy of accepting contributions from all social scientists and from any region of the world, it is pertinent to inform that various articles of this journal, despite their main focus on India, have published about societies of thirty-seven different countries. Using qualitative, quantitative, textual, triangulation and historical data, the journal publishes three kinds of articles, namely discursive, empirical and historical.
Sociological Bulletin believes in broad boundaries of vision and its mission. Any article submitted with sociological inputs is given equal consideration. This practice has been fruitful in terms of diversity of fields covered in the journal. The journal follows a rigorous double-blind reviewing policy.
Although two sections remain unchanged, there could be three to five sections in the journal.
Unchanged Sections:
a. Research Articles: Only the research articles are refereed.
b. Book Reviews: Vary from number to number invariably guided by limits to the size of the manuscript.
Other miscellaneous sections which may not appear in every number:
a. Communication/Discussion
b. Profession
c. Review Article
This journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).
