Dena Bain Taylor is an experienced teacher of writing and critical skills across the range of allied health professions, and understands the types of writing nursing and midwifery students do and the writing issues they face. Her accessible, straightforward book - tailored specifically to the content and conventions of nursing and midwifery curricula - teaches students to write persuasively and correctly, both to support them in their courses and to prepare them for their professional careers.
The book:
- offers practical strategies for using language to achieve clear, persuasive writing;
- provides clear explanations of underlying principles;
- contains samples of good and improvable writing, leading the student step-by-step through the whole writing process;
- focuses on the genres and styles of writing that nursing and midwifery students are typically asked for.
With regular summaries, learning aids, checklists and a glossary of key terms, nursing and midwifery students at all levels will find this book easy to follow and handy to refer to for help with the writing they need to do throughout their course.
This is a very comprehensive guide to support students academic writing skills. I have also recommended it to colleagues.
Useful for first year degree midwifery students.
Helpful in planning essays and reports
Have recommended this book as supplementary reading for level 4 (first year ) midwifery students. Especially useful for those who are finding writing assignments and structuring assignments difficult
What a great book. Students will be using this text for the new term. They will find it extremely useful and accessible particularly those who have been out of education for a while
A truly excellent book. Well structured and organised. Covers all elements of academic writing with good use of examples. A must for all nursing students.
This is a good book for students to help them with their academic writing skills
Nice to have to show students that help is out there for students starting to write academically.
I think many of my students will find this book helpful for their academic writing. Incorporating some of the very useful building blocks for structuring writing, to some of the basics (but which cause problems for lots of students), such as when to use capital letters. It also contains some useful information about communicating online - again useful for my learners who use email and discussion forums extensively throughout their course.
This book has already been loaned to numerous students since i received it, (it is hardly on my desk actually)! They find it easy to read, clear and informative. A number of them have said they will purchase it. I can't give specific feedback as i haven't really had the opportunity to read it, one of my first year students has it at the moment!
A nice, user friendly textbook written in an 'approachable' style students may find welcoming.
