Cephalalgia, first published in 1981, is the premier international journal in the field of headache and facial pain and an official journal of the International Headache Society (IHS), the world’s leading membership organization for those with a professional commitment to helping people affected by headache.

The mission of Cephalalgia is to publish the most novel and impactful clinical, translational and pre-clinical research, advancing the global understanding and management of all forms of headache and facial pain in adults and in children and adolescents.

Cephalalgia is the premier international journal dedicated to advancing knowledge and clinical practice in headache and facial pain, published monthly on behalf of the International Headache Society (IHS).

The scope of Cephalalgia spans both clinical and translational research, encompassing the following key topics within headache and facial pain:
- Guidelines, Position and Scientific Statements: Evidence-based guidelines, clinical practice recommendations, position statements, and scientific documents developed by the International Headache Society, either independently or in collaboration with other stakeholders.
- Epidemiology and Burden: Studies on prevalence, impact, and healthcare implications of headache disorders. For submission of Global Burden of Disease (GBD) studies, authors should be GBD collaborators.
- Genetics and Epigenetics: Genetic insights and epigenetic factors influencing headache susceptibility and severity.
- Neurophysiology: Techniques and findings in imaging and electrophysiological research relevant to headaches.
- Biomarkers: Identification and validation of biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment response.
