PEs are primarily project managers for the production process, guiding articles and issues through production. They serve as central liaison for authors, editors, and all production staff ; maintain and distribute knowledge about each journal’s needs; review and adjust correction requests to meet those needs; perform quality checks; and oversee journal scheduling and page budgets.
Pub Eds are the main point of contact for journal management, from manuscript submission through publication of an issue and online access to all content. Pub Eds work with societies and editors to have a high-level overview of how the journal is doing editorially and financially. Pub Eds provide all reporting to, and negotiate contract renewals for editors and societies and maintain regular contact with all members of a journal team to ensure smooth delivery and oversight of content, production, marketing, sales, and customer service.
Our web-based SMART (Sage Manuscript and Resource Tracking) system helps us coordinate article and issue production, and SMART can also help you view article progress, plan issues, track page budgets, and more (see your Quick Ref or ask your PE for login info and the SMART appendix for more details). Sage Track files and author information feed directly into SMART along with any notes you placed within the “production notes” section.
Sage Track is a web-based system designed to help manage article submissions and the peer review process. It is powered by ScholarOne Manuscripts, also known as Manuscript Central, but its capabilities are expanded to also work with Sage’s other systems such as SMART. Sage Track exports flow directly into SMART. For the editorial office, Sage Track is a tremendous timesaver. It automates the entire peer-review process and can be set up to send automatic reminders and correspondence to reviewers and authors. It also acts as a reviewer database, tracking reviewer patterns (i.e., how many reviews have been completed or declined), allowing the editor to assign reviewer ratings, and helping the editor choose potential reviewers based on areas of expertise. The system is also capable of generating many reports, including accept/reject ratio, submissions received, time from submission to decision, and reviewer history.
Sage Journals: Licensing & Payment is an integrated online platform that provides a single portal for authors, consortia, libraries and funders to manage their open access publishing options. The platform also supports Contributor License signing for a growing number of Sage’s hybrid and subscription journals.
Authors publishing open access in Sage’s Gold Open Access journals or hybrid journals (via Sage Choice, Sage’s hybrid OA option) can choose and sign funder compliant open access creative commons licenses and pay (or assign payers) for Article Processing Charges, where applicable, in the platform.
Authors publishing subscription: can sign their Contributor License in the platform, a required step before publication of their article.
Authors will be invited to Sage Journals: Licensing & Payment via email after acceptance in Sage Track. Authors will receive automated reminders and clear instructions to ensure that their post-acceptance actions are completed and the production of their article is not delayed.
