'A well thought-out, accessible and engaging guide to conducting qualitative research projects. This is a must-read for any student beginning the qualitative journey.'
Abigail Locke, University of Huddersfield, UK
This book is for students who are embarking on a qualitative research project in psychology or a related discipline. While focusing mainly on undergraduate dissertations, this book will also be useful for postgraduate students. It takes you through planning a qualitative project, stage by stage, addressing key issues and concerns along the way. The focus throughout is on how to make your project excellent!
Packed full of examples from student projects to help you to put theory into practice, the book guides you through:
• designing your research
• ethical considerations
• collecting your data
• analysing your data
• writing your report or dissertation.
In addition, the book will help you with time management and working with your supervisor, as well as providing guidance on how you can use your project as the basis for publication or further study.
A very useful text, pitched perfectly for undergraduate students conducting a qualitative research project. It takes the student through from identifying a research question to evaluating their data.
This is an excellent textbook which any student embarking on a qualitative research project would be foolish not to purchase! It fills a gap in the market and is very informative and easy to read. It will certainly make my project supervision easier!
This book is perfect for our module as it covers the whole process students need to think through for their projects.
This is a really useful introductory textbook aimed primarily at undergraduates undertaking their own research projects. However, it is pitched at a level that is just right for postgraduates with little or no previous experience of qualitative research who are embarking on research as part of taught courses. What is particularly nice about the book is that it is practically oriented, going through each of the key stages of designing and conducting a research project, helping to demystify some of the processes that tend not to be well-covered in methods textbooks, such as coming up with a research question, ethics, evaluating research and writing up research projects. I will definitely be recommending this book to the trainee clinical psychologists I teach as I feel that it will help to take some of the fear out of the research process.
An excellent, comprehensive book that clearly navigates students through the stages of their qualitative research project.
This basic but comprehensive introduction offers students an almost handbook experience that will prove very useful in moments of doubt.
Most of my psychology dissertation students do qualitative research and this is invaluable
