Passing Assessments for the Award in Education and Training

October 2013 | 136 pages | Learning Matters
This is an essential text for all learners taking the Award in Education and Training, no matter which awarding organisation they are registered with. It's readable, relevant, easy to understand and gives key advice on approaching and completing written and practical assessments. It helps both in-service and pre-service learners to fully understand the requirements of the Award, and how to evidence their achievement towards the standards.

This book will:
  • help learners with their written assessments towards the three main units of the Award
  • give guidance on how learners can demonstrate and evidence their achievement
  • help learners with their practical assessments including hints and tips for succeeding in the microteach
  • give guidance for giving and receiving feedback

This is a companion title to The Award in Education and Training by Ann Gravells.

Another useful tool from Ann Gravells which talks trainees through the Level 3 Award in Education and Training assessments, providing them with key ideas as well as signposting to further sources of information and research.

As with all Ann Gravells' texts, this is clearly written and aimed at giving learners the confidence and knowledge to complete the course. For learners who are less sure of their ability to formulate their answers, this text gives basic guidelines and suggestions.

Useful recommended reference material to support the study of the students on this programme, particularly those considering or obliged to progress to the CET and for some DET programmes. Worked particularly well for those new to this style of study and portfolio builds.

Students relied on the book too much to get their answers from as opposed to thinking how they can relate training to the environment they are teaching in or plan to teach in.

An excellent text signposting the route to preparing evidence for assessment. Easy to access information and clear explanations.

While this publication offers useful information, its context does not student the requirements of our students in Ireland.

I have used this for specific students more so than a recommended text for the DET/PGCE. I have used it for student evaluation of what is written and how it meets criteria. For those who have not written an assignment response for some time, it is useful.
I have also used it to help students summarise content.
