Teaching Primary Phonics

Both as a trainee and as a teacher, you will encounter different phonics programmes and will need to look at them closely to determine how you can use your existing knowledge to teach them, and to ascertain what you will need to learn if you are to teach them in the most effective way. But here is a quick guide the most commonly used systematic synthetic phonics programmes. Although there are many other phonics programmes, including some which have been created by local authorities and even individual schools, our surveys of trainee teachers and various teacher training providers suggest these three are the most frequently used.
